Physical Therapy Trends- Value Based Retailing Part 2

In Part 1 of this series on Physical Therapy Trends, we touched on the subject of Value Based Retailing.

Here in Part 2 we’ll walk through a few more important topics in the Health and Fitness space, offer solutions to help you address challenges with your patients, and highlight effective products that many PTs are successfully retailing in their clinics.

Keto Dieting

The term “keto” is short for ketosis. When you or your patients are following the “the ketogenic diet” – which has been around since the 1920s – the restriction of carbs (approximately 20-30 net grams per day, including grains, sugar, fruit, etc.) puts your body into “ketosis,” a metabolic state occurring when most of the body’s energy comes from ketone bodies, rather than from glucose from carbs. This is in contrast to the glycolytic state most of us are usually in, where blood glucose provides most of the body’s energy.

By reducing carb intake and increasing consumption of healthy fats, which helps create a feeling of fullness, your body has less glucose available and is now forced to burn fat and produce ketones instead. Once the blood levels of ketones rise to a certain point, you reach ketosis. This state results in consistent, fairly rapid weight loss until your body reaches a desired weight.

Benefits include weight loss, potentially longer life expectancy, reduced risk of chronic and lifestyle related diseases (including Type 2diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, cancer, neurologic disorders) and clearer thought with increased energy levels.

Stay tuned for an upcoming article in the next month that dives deeper into tips, tricks and tools for getting the most out of the Keto Diet.

In the meantime check out the article links below for information about keto-friendly products that can benefit your patients:

Addressing mild to moderate pain without using meds

Sometimes the best solution to help patients reduce pain, recover from an injury and get healthy is to get them moving. Topical Analgesics are a great solution for addressing pain and movement limitations.

Topical analgesics are:

  • healthy and natural,
  • non-addictive, and
  • easy to use.

“I use Biofreeze for the vast majority of musculoskeletal problems our practice treats. We know it works for all patients, from Olympic athletes to weekend warriors, when the goal is to reduce or eliminate pain and promote optimal function. Our rehab patients, many of whom have a strong likelihood of post-rehab muscle soreness, go home with Biofreeze, which provides them the security of knowing that they have a great product to reduce their symptoms and improve their level of function. Biofreeze works great with all treatment modalities and is an integral part of our treatment planning. We feel it has tremendous clinical and professional benefits, and it basically sells itself, which provides a steady additional revenue stream.”
