The American Physical Therapy Association’s special-interest sections give you the resources you need to stay current in your area of expertise and connect with others who share your specific interests. With 18 sections to choose from, you’re sure to find something of interest!
The Private Practice Section, one of the largest of the APTA sections, fosters the growth, economic viability, and business success of physical therapist-owned PT services. Get the resources you need to start or expand your practice; consult with a PPS Member Mentor or knowledgeable PPS staff; attend the Section’s Annual Conference specifically for private practice owners and practice staff; participate in regional courses and Web casts; purchase valuable publications; and support legislative and regulatory advocacy that directly affects your practice. Monthly publication: Impact. (A special subscription program is available to non-PT practice administrators of PPS members.)
Here’s Why You Should Join PPS:
The Private Practice Section was created for physical therapists who realize that being a great clinician is only half the battle. You recognize that in order to succeed as a therapist, it is imperative that you possess the skills to succeed as a businessperson.
As a PPS member you will grow into an experienced business professional and leader in the PT industry. You will learn best practices and be introduced to innovative business models through peer2peer networking opportunities. You will be provided with current continuing education every month via Impact magazine, the PPS Webinar Series, and other publications. You will be supported by ongoing advocacy efforts, legislative updates, and advice on handling payment-related issues.
When you join the Private Practice Section you will be joining a dynamic network of the leading physical therapist–owned private practices. Membership in the section is open to ALL current APTA members. Whether you’re an experienced professional or a student interested in learning more, the section welcomes your expertise, enthusiasm, and support.

Administrators of your practice have numerous opportunities within the Private Practice Section as well. The non-PTs/PTAs of your practice are eligible to become certified administrators of a physical therapy practice through our Administrator’s Certificate Program. They will become equipped with discounted educational opportunities, a nationwide network of PT administrators, and archived materials to support and inform them as they support your practice. Equip your administrators with the tools to succeed by offering them an Administrator’s Council Membership
