Dr. Stephen David Smith


Dr. Stephen David Smith is a graduate of Lafayette College and received his D.M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He served in the United States Army Dental Corps, including a term of duty in Vietnam. He is currently Professor of Maxillo-Temporomandibular Disorders, Ear, Nose & Throat Department at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathetic Medicine. He founded the Temporomandibular center at the college and developed a mini-residency tutorial program in craniofacial pain and temporomandibular orthopedic. He has published numerous scientific papers and lectured extensively to medical, dental, physical therapy, and legal societies throughout the United States and abroad.

Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain, Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. His primary practice emphasis is on TMJ/TMD temporomandibular disorders, headache/craniofacial pain, and oral appliance therapy for snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and movement disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Smith believes that specially designed oral appliances, along with head/neck/jaw neuromuscular physiotherapies, can significantly improve quality of living.
